The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation was founded in Hong Kong in 1865 by Scotsman Thomas Sutherland to finance trade in the Far East; HSBC Holdings is now headquartered in London. The iconic red-and-white hexagon logo, inspired by the company's house flag and the Scottish St Andrew's Cross, was designed in 1983 by Austrian graphic designer Henry Steiner, known as the father of Hong Kong graphic design.
