Instagram was launched in October 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger in San Francisco, and acquired by Facebook in 2012 for one billion dollars. The photo and video sharing platform has over one billion active users. The current logo — a minimalist camera outline with a vivid colour gradient — was designed in 2016 by Ian Spalter and Instagram's creative team, replacing the earlier skeuomorphic Polaroid-style icon.
