Snapchat is an American ephemeral messaging app created in 2011 by Stanford students Reggie Brown, Evan Spiegel, and Bobby Murphy. It popularised disappearing photo messages, then Stories and augmented-reality filters. The 'Ghostface Chillah' mascot was drawn by Evan Spiegel himself on a bright yellow background in 2011, then simplified in 2013 into an expressionless ghost silhouette that became the universally recognised icon.
