YouTube was founded on February 14, 2005, by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim, all former PayPal employees, and acquired by Google in November 2006 for $1.65 billion. The logo was modernised in August 2017, making the red-and-white play button an independent symbol alongside the name in black type, as part of a Material Design overhaul.
