Maserati is an Italian carmaker founded on 1 December 1914 in Bologna by Alfieri Maserati and his brothers. The trident logo was designed by Mario Maserati, inspired by the Neptune statue in Bologna's Piazza Maggiore, just metres from the firm's original workshop. The trident made its first official appearance in 1926 on the Tipo 26, the car with which Alfieri won his class at the Targa Florio.
