Nikon — the logo

Nikon was founded on July 25, 1917, in Tokyo, Japan, as Nippon Kōgaku Kōgyō, through the merger of three optical manufacturers. The brand adopted the Nikon name in 1953. The distinctive yellow-and-black logo — the wordmark set inside a yellow oval with a thick black outline — was designed by Japanese graphic designer Yusaku Kamekura and introduced in 1965.
