Opel — the logo

Opel was founded on 21 January 1862 in Rüsselsheim, Germany, by Adam Opel, initially as a sewing machine manufacturer, then a bicycle maker, before entering automobile production in 1899. The name "Blitz" (lightning) appeared in the brand's identity as early as 1890, but it was in 1964 that a lightning bolt inside a circle became the official emblem on all Opel vehicles. This Blitz badge, revised several times since, remains Opel's central logo today.
