Toyota — the logo

Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese automaker founded on 28 August 1937 by Kiichiro Toyoda in Toyota City, Aichi. The current logo — three interlocking ellipses forming a stylised T — was introduced in October 1989 for the company's 50th anniversary: the two inner ellipses represent the customer and the manufacturer, while the outer ellipse signifies worldwide reach. The name was changed from 'Toyoda' to 'Toyota' because the latter requires eight brush strokes in katakana, considered a lucky number in Japan.
