Huawei was founded in 1987 in Shenzhen by Ren Zhengfei, a former officer of the People's Liberation Army, and grew to become the world's largest telecommunications equipment maker. The company has faced significant geopolitical scrutiny over its 5G network equipment. Its current logo, a stylized chrysanthemum-like flower with eight petals derived from an earlier rising-sun motif, was adopted in 2006.
