BMW — the logo

BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke) is a German automaker whose origins trace to the founding of Bayerische Flugzeugwerke in Munich in 1916. Its circular roundel logo in blue and white draws from the Bavarian flag's colours, inverted for trademark reasons. The popular myth of a spinning aircraft propeller in a blue sky is a later interpretation, popularised by a 1929 BMW advertisement.
