Marriott International traces its origins to a root beer stand opened on 27 May 1927 in Washington D.C. by J. Willard Marriott and his wife Alice. The company opened its first hotel, the Twin Bridges Motor Hotel in Arlington, Virginia, in 1957. Marriott International is today one of the world's largest hotel chains, operating over 30 brands and 8,000 properties worldwide.
